Back in 2020, when Kia launched the Sonet in India, the company had set several benchmarks in the subcompact SUV space. Aggressive styling, good creature comforts, and lots of new tech, the SUV had it all. Now, Kia India has given the Sonet a mid-life facelift, and it claims to have improved upon all these aspects. We recently spent some quality time with the car, and got to test both the turbo petrol and diesel engines. The former in the X-Line guise and the latter in the GT-Line trim. But are the changes really substantial or is it all just a gimmick? Watch the full video to find out.

Three years on from the launch of the original, Kia has unveiled the facelifted Sonet in New Delhi. The subcompact SUV now packs even more kit than before, and Amaan Ahmed brings you a quick first look at the updated Sonet ahead of its launch in 2024.

रफ्तार रीबूटिड के इस सेममेंच में बातें बहुत सारी कॉम्पैक्ट एसयूवी की. सबकॉम्पैक्ट SUV सेगमेंट छाया हुआ है. हमेशा लोकप्रिय, अब इसमें पहले से ज्यादा खिलाड़ी हैं. यहां पहले से ही 7 कारें हैं और अगले 6 महीनों में कम से कम 2 और आने वाली हैं. पार्टी में शामिल होने वाली सबसे नई कार है - किआ सोनेट. और इसने मामला काफी गर्म कर दिया है! तो यहां किआ सोनेट और इसके मुकाबले में खड़ी सभी कारों की तुलना करना बहुत ज़रूरी हो गया है. मुकाबले की सभी कारें किआ सोनेट पर हावी होने वाली हैं, क्योंकि ये सभी पहले से सफल हैं और अपने मुकाबले की बाकी कारों को पछाड़ कर आगे बढ़ी हैं. अबतक सेगमेंट की सबसे ज़्यादा बिकने वाली कार मारुति सुज़ुकी विटरा ब्रेज़ा, बाज़ार की मौजूदा लीडर ह्यून्दे वेन्यू, भारत की सबसे सुरक्षित कार महिंद्रा XUV300 और इस सेगमेंट की शुरुआत करने वाली फोर्ड इकोस्पोर्ट हैं. तो मैं टाटा नेक्सॉन और टोयोटा की अर्बन क्रूज़र को भी इस मुकाबले में शामिल करना चाहता था. हमारे पास सारे मुख्य दावेदार हैं. टाटा ने हमें नेक्सॉन नहीं दी, हालांकि हमने उसे पाने की कोशिश की, और ना ही टोयोटा के पास हमारे लिए नई अर्बन क्रूज़र समय पर तैयार थी. लेकिन मैं यहां इसकी शिकायत नहीं कर रहा, क्योंकि किआ सोनेट के मुकाबले में जो कारें हमारे पास उपलब्ध हैं उनसे किआ सोनेट का असली मुकाबला है. फरवरी 2019 की बात है जब महिंद्रा XUV300 आई और उसी साल मई में हु्यन्दे वेन्यू लॉन्च हुई. लेकिन फोर्ड इकोस्पोर्ट सबसे पुरानी होने के बावजूद एहम है और मुकाबले में बनी हुई है. मारुति सुजुकी विटारा ब्रेज़ा ने डीज़ल को बंद कर दिया और अब सिर्फ के-सीरीज पेट्रोल इंजन है - लेकिन पहले से उलट अब एएमटी नहीं बल्कि ऑटो गियरबॉक्स है. टाटा नेक्सॉन को भी बदला गया है, यह भारत की पहली 5-स्टार कार थी जब तक XUV300 ने अपने क्रैश टेस्ट स्कोर से इसको पीछे नहीं छोड़ दिया, और फिर कोरियाई जोड़ी हैं, जिसमें बिल्कुल नई और बहुत चर्चित किआ सोनेट शामिल है. तकनीक और इंजन की बात करें तो टोयोटा अर्बन क्रूज़र असल में विटारा ब्रेज़ा पर आधारित है और ब्रेज़ा की तर्ज पर इस कार के साथ ऑटोमैटिक के अलावा माइल्ड हाईब्रिड सिस्टम के साथ आई है. जानें किसने जीता या अहम मुकाबला.

Kia Sonet Prices revealed, Jawa Exports To Europe, Tata Nexon IDIS | carandbike

The Kia Sonet has created much buzz ahead of its market arrival. It is undoubtedly one of 2020's hottest launches. And yes it is driving in to what is a crowded segment with 5 strong players. But Kia has the 'power to surprise', doesn't it? Siddharth has driven the segment-first diesel automatic, and the new turbo petrol IMT variants. The diesel auto is a top-spec GT-line offering - the GTX+, while the GDI with me is the Tech-line in the highest HTX+ variant. The Kia Sonet gets IMT, DCT, auto and regular manual gearbox options. It has two-tone or monotone paint jobs. Two trim lines and of course two petrol and one diesel engine to choose from. Throw in all the tech and gadgetry as well and that is quite the fully loaded car isn't it? You have to tell us what you think of it, unless you go crazy trying to figure out which of the many variants work for you! We expect Kia to be competitive and that they will start at just under Rs. 7 lakh and top off at Rs. 12 lakh ex-showroom. The Kia Sonet launches on September 18, 2020.

Kia Sonet addresses almost every requirement of a buyer in Sub compact SUV segment . Great looks, good engines and transmission, descent interior space, superb interior quality, largest boot in segment, good ride and handling, and many first in segment features...some reviews on social media has complained of cramped rear seats space but I haven't found any issues .My height is more than 5'10 and after adjusting driver's seat according to my height there is enough legroom space for rear passenger of even more than 6 feet. Shoulder room for three large adults may be a little tight but acceptable keeping in view of competition. And you won't drive with full five adults always, what really matters is largest bootspace of 392 litres which is useful in family shopping and luggage placing for long tours. High ground clearance of 205 mm is really helpful in broken and hilly terrain and steering response is confident. What I personally feel is that ride quality is not plush or absorbing like Tata nexon but comparable to the rest of segment. My requirement was a silent and powerful fuel efficient diesel engine with good features and Sonet HTX manual diesel fulfilled that with added strong drivability. I have purchased car 2 weeks back and driven it for 900 Kms and I'm very happy with my decision..I will keep posting further pros and cons as I drive it more and more...for fuel efficient concerns it's giving me 18.1 kmpl even I hardly shift to fifth gear due to road conditions..

Been driving close to a month post purchase of HTX, the imt seems to be providing a mixed experience of automatic and a manual trans. The rear seat comfort comes at compromising the easier ride quality, the drive is real smooth and mileage will really be shocking as you maneuver in slow traffic ~6-7kmpl, but if you drive in the highway the actual mileage might be pretty satisfactory, I drove in a normal traffic without revving much, and I get close to 11-12kmpl, which is way less than their claim of 18kmpl. Sonet loses the 1 star just for that. Other than that the wait period (3 months) was a killer, but I would say it was worth the wait.

Nice Car with balanced features and ride quality.

The Kia Sonet delivers a strong punch in the subcompact crossover SUV segment. It’s feature-packed, with modern safety features like multiple airbags and tech-friendly interiors. The engine performance is lively, especially in the automatic variant. The fuel efficiency is great, but the suspension could feel a bit stiff on bumpy roads. Also, the rear space is slightly tight for taller passengers.

Sonet has really impressed me with its style and safety features. The engine performance is great for a subcompact crossover SUV, and the automatic variant makes city driving very easy. Space inside is good for a small family, and the boot space can handle weekend luggage. The fuel efficiency is also a big advantage, and it has a low maintenance cost.
