car&bike Expert Take
“The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is still an iconic machine for Indian roads thanks to its punchy mid-range, a comfortable highway ride, and bulletproof reliability. That familiar semi-faired design and aggressive stance keeps attracting buyers who want proven performance though high speed vibrations remain a con.”
Since it first launched in 2007, the Bajaj Pulsar 220F has undergone several changes over 15 years to meet changing emission standards while sticking to its initial core identity. Today, Bajaj Auto’s workhorse is fully compliant with BS6 Phase 2 norms and has a fuel-injected, oil-cooled engine focused on offering consistent power delivery.

Looking at its market placement, we can clearly understand who the Bajaj Pulsar 220F’s closest competitors are: the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Hero Karizma XMR. But the Pulsar holds its market value well against them with its straightforward, mechanical riding experience. Our team at car&bike has often reviewed this two-wheeler’s performance throughout its long run in the subcontinent, with Jafar Rizvi writing a recent piece about it on our website.
The update mostly shared how the company has issued a clarification that the bike continues to be produced with single-channel ABS. It also has a digital-analogue instrument cluster and a capable suspension setup that can handle broken city roads easily.
Pros
- Excellent mid-range torque for effortless overtakes
- Comfortable ergonomics for long-distance highway touring
- Newly added digital console with Bluetooth and USB charging
Cons
- The overall design feels aged compared to modern rivals
- Lacks dual-channel ABS, which is expected at this price point
- Engine refinement drops at high RPMs
Verdict
The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is a solid example of why good engineering often outlasts flashy competition. Yes, it may not have the liquid-cooled engines or aerodynamic winglets of newer motorcycles. Still, it gives exactly what it promises: raw power, road presence, and reliability. Recent updates also equipped the bike with a fully digital console, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB charging port. But Bajaj should have done one more thing here, we admit; the Indian manufacturer should have updated the bike with dual-channel ABS.
The bike is also certainly not the sharpest handling machine around tight corners, nor the most refined at the redline. But if you look past these shortcomings and focus on how affordable, comfortable, and highway-friendly the Bajaj Pulsar 220F is, you can call it a mass-market champion. It’s a no-nonsense motorcycle offering immense value for money, clearly demonstrating why the Bajaj badge has so much weight in the Indian market.
Jafar concludes in his review,
“One of the longest-running models in the Pulsar lineup, the 220F has consistently been among Bajaj’s better-selling offerings. It has garnered considerable attention from riders across all age brackets since its launch in 2007. Bajaj Auto had discontinued the model in 2021 following the launch of the 250 series, but brought the 220F back in 2023.”
Pulsar 220F Colour Options
