We have known about Volkswagen's much-awaited sub-compact sedan - New Compact Sedan (NCS) - for some time now. Recently Thierry Lespiaucq, MD, Volkswagen India, reasserted the plans regarding the upcoming Volkswagen car. Though he did not divulge much about the Made-for-India sub-compact sedan, he said that it will be launched in 2016.

Based on VW Polo, the NCS is essentially the Polo sedan that will measure under 4-meters in length. Rumoured to have been christened the Volkswagen Bora, it will be manufactured at the German carmaker's Chakan plant.

Mr Lespiaucq also added that the sub-compact sedan will not be priced under Rs. 5 lakh. Just so you know, the only car in this segment with a starting price of less than Rs 5 lakh is the Tata Zest. And even though the NCS will compete with the likes of Honda Amaze and Maruti Swift Dzire, expect it to be slightly larger.

This Volkswagen sub-compact sedan will get the same engines as the ones found on the Polo, i.e. a 1.2-litre TSI, and a 1.5-litre TDI. We expect the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol to be offered with 2 transmission options: a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. Whereas the 1.5-litre diesel will get only get a 5-speed manual transmission.

Expected Price: Rs. 5 lakh -  Rs. 8 lakh

    Launch Date: 2016
