Toyota retains no. 1 position in global sales in Q1 2014

Japanese automajor, Toyota Motor Corporation continued to top the global sales charts in the first quarter of 2014 as well, beating its rivals General Motors Co. and Volkswagen AG.

    Japanese automajor, Toyota Motor Corporation continued to top the global sales charts in the first quarter of 2014 as well, beating its rivals General Motors Co. and Volkswagen AG. The company sole a record 2.8 million vehicles worldwide. During the same period, GM sold 2.42 million vehicles globally, up 2 percent year-on-year, while Volkswagen sold 2.40 million vehicles, an increase of 5.8 percent.

    Toyota and its group companies recorded 6.3 percent rise in their global sales during January-March, thanks to high demand in Japan and improved performance in China and Europe.

    Toyota also informed that in the financial year ended in March, its global group sales crossed 10 million vehicles for the first time ever. Toyota sold 10.13 million vehicles globally in the financial year 2013-14, up 4.5 percent year-on-year.

    Toyota became the top-selling brand in 2008 and retained the positioned till 2010, though affected by natural disasters in Japan and Thailand, it came to no. 3 spot in 2011, which it regained in 2012.
