Nissan India has issued a recall for about 12,000 units of its models, including the Sunny sedan and Micra. The recall, a part of the company's global effort to rectify engine switch and airbags, affects cars manufactured between June, 2013 and March, 2015 in India. Globally, the Japanese carmaker announced a recall for around 270,000 cars.

The recall comes after Japanese parts maker Takata's airbags caused a global crisis. Just so you know, the airbags in the aforementioned cars were made by Takata. A company spokesperson said, "Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service, and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this issue."

The spokesperson further clarified that the engine switch will be repaired by authorised Nissan retailers, at no cost to the customer. Vehicles affected by faulty airbags constituted a very small fraction of the 12,000 cars being recalled.

However, Nissan isn't the only manufacturer to be affected by the Takata scandal. Honda Cars India had also recalled 11,381 units of Accord, CR-V and Civic, manufactured between 2003 and 2007, last month. The recall was to replace a faulty part in the passenger and driver side airbags, and is is a part of Honda's global campaign of fixing potential defects related to airbags in its cars.

Interestingly, ever since Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) started voluntary vehicle recalls in India, over 7 lakh vehicles have been recalled.
