Highlights

The Hyundai Xcent is finally here! The Korean automotive giant made its foray into the sub-4 metre compact sedan segment and prices begin from Rs. 4.66 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 5.56 lakh for the diesel (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Globally unveiled on February 4th in India, the Xcent has been launched in 3 trims - the base, S and SX.

Built on the Grand i10's BA platform, the Xcent shares components, engine options, and gets features similar to its hatchback sibling. It carries the same 1.1-litre U2 CRDi diesel (70bhp) and 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol (82bhp) mills, which also power the Grand i10.

Hyundai claims fuel efficiency figures of 24.4 km/l for the diesel and 19.1 km/l for the petrol variant (ARAI approved figures). The auto-box equipped Xcent claims a fuel efficiency figure of 16.9km/l, which is not bad at all.

A 5-speed manual transimission will come standard on the diesel and the petrol version, while a 4-speed auto-box will be available in the top-end trim of the petrol variant.

In terms of design as well, the front fascia of the Xcent looks identical to the Grand i10, however the boot has been neatly integrated and that's what makes it special. Inside the cabin too, the Xcent looks similar to the hatchback, with similar list of features and design.

The entry-level compact sedan is already a very competitive one, where some very capable cars like Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze are present. What will give the Xcent a competitive edge over its rivals are a number of first-in-class features like rear AC vents, smart key with push button start, rear parking camera with sensors, 15 inches diamond cut alloy wheels, 2 DIN audio with USB, CD player with 1 GB internal memory, auto folding mirrors, electro-chromic mirror ad one-touch electric trunk opening. The Hyundai Xcent will also offer best-in-class boot space to its buyers.

When it comes to safety features, dual front airbags come as standard on the top-end SX variant, however ABS is optional on the S and SX variant. The base doesnt get either.
