    Detroic Electric, the global electric vehicle maker, is in the final phase of testing its highly anticipated all-electric sportscar namely the SP:01. Built on the Lotus Elise chassis, this lightweight, two-seat, rear-wheel drive, open-top sportscar will be the world's fastest pure-electric production car. Just 999 examples of the SP:01 will be built and sold worldwide through a network of specialist retail partners.

    The rear-wheel drive SP:01 features a compact, mid-mounted 201bhp electric motor, a lightweight, purpose-designed battery pack and all-new carbon-fibre bodywork. With the competency of touching 100kmph mark from standstill in just 3.7 seconds, the vehicle has a top-speed of 249kmph. Such impressive figures don't just make it the fastest electric car, it will also be one of the fastest sportscars out there in the world.

    Coming to the history of the brand, the Detroit Electric was an electric car produced in Detroit, Michigan by Anderson Electric Car Company. The company was established in 1907 and produced a total of 13,000 electric cars till it winded up in the year 1939. Notable customers for the company included Thomas Edison, Mamie Eisenhower, John D. Rockerfeller Jr. and Clara Ford, the wife of Henry Ford. The brand was revived again in 2008 by Detroit Electric Holding Ltd, Netherlands with an objective to produce modern all-electric cars.
