We all know what the BMW i8 is all about, and we saw it at the Delhi Auto Expo this year. At the Expo BMW said that they will be bringing the car to India this year itself and that is a big commitment. Now, BMW has released a new video which highlights the lightweight construction of the i8 hybrid sports vehicle.

The company explains the Efficient Dynamics technologies that was launched more than a decade ago and has been put into use in the i8. The culmination of all these technologies is to make the i8 more dynamic and efficient. Weight saving is the key characteristic and BMW has been able to achieve these savings by using carbon fibre extensively in the i8.

Carbon Fibre is produced at Moses Lake in the US using energy that is delivered by hydro power. Carbon fibre is 50% lighter than steel and 30% lighter than aluminium and that is why the BMW i8 weighs 1490 kgs only.

The coupe is powered by a hybrid system consisting of a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and an electric motor. BMW has rated the output at 362bhp and 570Nm of torque.
