Ok, we've heard about hybrids getting into the motorsport world and we know there is a lot of development which goes on in the world of alternate fuel but a hydrogen fuel cell car for a rally stage sounds a little weird. Not for Toyota.

Toyota has announced plans to compete in the final race of the Japanese Rally Championship with a specially prepared FCV. The FCV is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that features an aerodynamic exterior. This is in fact the car of the future and the fact that Toyota plans to compete with it at a rally stage says a lot.

The company declined to go into specifics but the model features a white exterior with blue, silver and black graphics. The car also mud flaps and lightweight alloy wheels.

No performance figures were released but from what we know the standard model comes with a range of 482 km and can be refilled within 5 minutes. The 285 km Shinshiro Rally kicks off on the 1st of November and we will know more about what transpires soon.
