Highlights

  • The R1M gets a new colour scheme along with ECU updates
  • The R1M also gets semi-active electronic suspension
  • The R1 gets a new colour scheme and a bi-directional quick-shifter

Amidst all the chaos, unveils and launches at EICMA, Yamaha slyly announced a few updates for its flagship sport bikes, the R1 and the track-focussed R1M. The R1M will be getting a new colour scheme, which is Silver Carbon Blu. Apart from the new colour, the bike will also get updated electronics such as a new Ohlins electronic racing suspension (ERS) with updated software. This will allow the bike to better the riding dynamics and also improve braking, acceleration and cornering as well. The ERS will be working in conjunction with the bike's 6-axis IMU (inertial measurement unit) and keep updating the response of the suspension to the rider inputs and the track as well.

The fuelling of the bike has been tweaked as well and so has been the quick-shifter. The quick-shifter is now a bi-directional unit. It can also be turned off when not in need, from the bike's TFT instrumentation console. Additionally, the R1M's ECU (Engine Control Unit) has been re-mapped for better power delivery and the wheelie control on the bike has been now linked to the IMU system. The R1M will be manufactured in limited numbers.

The standard YFZ R1 will also get a few changes which include a bi-directional quick-shifter and a new colour scheme of Race Blu colour.
