Yamaha Motor Company will be launching more leaning three-wheelers after the unveiling of the Yamaha MT-09 powered Yamaha Niken leaning three-wheeler last year. So far, there are no details on what will be Yamaha's new range of leaning three-wheelers, but it's almost certain that the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer will launch new products in the leaning multi-wheel (LMW) segment. The Yamaha Niken leaning three -wheeler was unveiled at last year's Tokyo Motor Show for the first time, and even several years before, the Yamaha Tricity was launched in 2014.

Now, Yamaha President and CEO Yoshihiro Hidaka has confirmed that future product development in the leaning three-wheeler segment is well underway with continued R&D activities in this segment. The Yamaha top boss revealed this plans at the company's announcement of its annual business results.

"Our company is working on various initiatives with the theme of the growing world of personal mobility in the current mid-term plan. This is a product line-up of LMW, leaning multi-wheel. Since the launch of the Tricity commuter in 2014, we continued R&D activities and in the last year's Tokyo Motor Show we have presented large size sports model Niken, which will be launched in the market this year. Not just limited to these two models, we will be expanding the customer base with new values of LMW," Hidaka said.

The Yamaha CEO gave a presentation with a blurred out image of a model between the existing Tricity and Niken three-wheelers, suggesting that the next three-wheeler may be a middleweight machine on the leaning three-wheeler segment. So far, there's no word on when the next leaning three-wheeler from Yamaha will be seen in production or concept form, but latest reports indicate that the new three-wheeler may be powered by the 321 cc, parallel-twin engine which currently powers the Yamaha YZF-R3.
