In a bid to cash in on the rising popularity of 300-350cc motorcycles in India, Yamaha is planning to launch the much-awaited YZF-R3 in the country on August 11, 2015. Earlier there were rumours about the company's plans of launching the R25 instead of the R3, but the company decided to bring in the bigger model to take on the likes of KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and others in the league.

First unveiled at EICMA in November 2014, the YZF-R3 is basically a more powerful sibling of the R25. Just so you know, the R3's engine is basically a bored out version of the R25's powertrain. And with slightly lower compression, the R3's engine performs better than that of the R25. Powering the R3 is a 320cc, twin-cylinder engine that churns out 41bhp an 29.5Nm. But when compared to the KTM RC390, the R3's closest rival, despite having a single-cylinder engine churns out more power (43bhp). And since it will come as a CKD route and will have two-cylinder engine, it will be a huge challenge for Yamaha to price it competitively.

Coming to the design, the Yamaha YZF-R3 looks very similar to the R25, but with subtle changes the R3 looks sportier than the latter. Both the models share their dimensions, body panels and diamond type frame. The R3 also takes some of its design inspiration from the YZF-R series, especially its dual headlamps, 10-spoke alloy wheels, digital-analogue console and silencer. The bike measures 2090mm in length, 1135m in height, 720mm in width, 1380mm in wheelbase, and has a a weight of 169kgs. The ground clearance of the bike is 160mm.
