Will The Nissan Kicks Crossover Concept Work For India?
Highlights
We've seen the Kicks crossover concept that Nissan showcased last year and there's always a chance it will come to India. The Kicks Concept was all about bringing a new car to Brazil but India too could benefit from this.
The Kicks SUV isn't a sub-compact but it is smaller than the Terrano that currently is sold in India. The Terrano measures in at 4331mm, the Kicks concept is 4300mm, however, considering that the sub-compact SUV segment in India is broadening, Nissan might want to think about how well suited it is to bring to India.
A lot of car manufacturers have already shown interest in this segment and we will see the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and even Tata Motors enter this segment in the coming months. Ford India has already brought in the Ecosport and Mahindra has the Quanto but clearly car manufacturers have set their focus on this segment.
In such circumstances, if Nissan could join the bandwagon with a product based on the Kicks Concept, it could give them a scope to dig into the sales pie. The muscular bumpers, roof rails and raised driving position along with the firm's corporate V-shaped front grille all make the car extremely good looking.
Nissan already has the engines for it - the 1.6-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel (already in the Sunny and Terrano. Both engines are tried and tested mules and have already been appreciated by Indian customers. So, Nissan should take this 'road not taken' for the Kicks crossover has what it takes to get Nissan back into the game.
