There is no mistaking about it but Volvo is on a roll at the moment. The Swedish company recently launched the stunning XC90 T8 Hybrid in India and now it took the wraps off the V90 Cross Country. As you must have surmised, the Volvo V90 Cross Country is a burly version of the V90 Estate.
Volvo says that the V90 Cross Country is the spiritual successor of the XC70 and the V70 models. The XC70 is in the final year of its production and the mantle will be taken over by the V90 Cross Country.
In essence, the ‘V’ nomenclature stands for estates when it comes to Volvo cars. But make no mistake; the V90 Cross Country is no simple estate. The V90 CC gets a higher ride height of 210mm as compared to 153mm of the regular V90. It gets a 5th generation Borg Warner AWD as standard equipment, which can be brought to use upon toggling the driving modes. At maximum, the AWD system can split the torque in a 50:50 ratio between the two axles if and when required.
Also, there is a better suspension travel and 20-inch high profile Pirelli tyres. There is hill descent control for added convenience when going down a slope. The V90 Cross Country also gets cladding on the wheel arches and skid plates at the front and at the rear, to complete the rugged look.
The good news is that the V90 Cross Country will be launched in India. The bad news is, it will be launched in India in the middle of 2017. There will be 4 powertrain options available. From what we learn, Volvo will be positioning this car between the S90 sedan and the XC90 SUV. The expected price of the V90 Cross Country, when launched in India, will be in the range of Rs. 60 lakh to Rs. 65 lakh.
