Volkswagen's New Cars for India
Highlights
With an aim to tap a bigger market share in the Indian market, German automajor, Volkswagen is planning to launch several new and facelifted products in the country. Speaking to PTI, Volkswagen India's President and Managing Director, Mahesh Kodumudi said that the company is planning to invest about 100 million euros (Over Rs 800 crore) in India to expand its business, including new launches.
He revealed that Volkswagen is exploring various options, including a made-for-India compact sedan, a sub-compact SUV and a compact hatchback. While the sub-compact SUV might be the Taigun, which was unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February, we guess that the proposed small hatchback and sub-compact sedan might be launched under Volkswagen's all new low-cost car brand. For people not in the know, Volkswagen is planning to launch a new brand for cheaper cars. The new brand will be like what Datsun is to Nissan.
The company is also working on upgraded models of Polo and Vento, along with the new generation Passat for India. The investment of approximately 100 million euros will also be used for further localisation of parts and components, which will help the company price its products more competitive.
