Volkswagen Virtus Sedan Teased Again
Highlights
- The Volkswagen Virtus is based on the new-gen VW Polo
- It is built on the same platform as the new Polo, which is MQB A0
- It may be launched in South America early next year
With the new-generation Polo already making its global debut, it was just a matter of time before a Polo-based sedan was on the cards. Already, a few photographs of the new-gen Polo based Virtus sedan are doing the rounds on the internet and this is the first time a complete teaser image of the profile of the car has been released. Of course, it is not the official but at least it gives us an idea of the silhouette of the Volkswagen Virtus looks like. Some internet reports suggest that the Virtus will soon be launched in South American market. It is built on the Volkswagen group's MQB A0 platform, which also forms the underpinnings for the new-generation Polo.

If we were to go by the teaser image, it shows that the sedan gets stylish alloys, familial Volkswagen headlamps and new wrap-around tail lamps. The Virtus will have a wheelbase longer than the polo hatchback, which will offer more space inside the cabin and have a bigger boot with a capacity of 500 litres or so.

The interior will be more or less similar to the new-gen Polo with components and equipment being shared as well. We guess that the dual screen dashboard will be offered on the Virtus as well. The Virtus will be getting a 1.6-litre petrol engine making 115bhp and 162 Nm paired to a five-speed automatic. The other engine option will be the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-charged engine which will make 126 bhp and 200 Nm of torque and paired with a 6-speed auto gearbox. This is of course for the South American market.
Unfortunately, there is no clarity on the Volkswagen Virtus sedan launching in India in the near future. Internet reports suggest that the Virtus sedan will be launched in South America early next year.
