Volkswagen Announces Price Hike On Select Models From January 2022

- The recently launched Volkswagen Tiguan will not receive any price hike.
Volkswagen cars are set to become more expensive next month. The German carmaker has announced a price hike ranging between 2 per cent and 5 per cent on the Volkswagen Polo hatchback, Vento compact sedan and Taigun compact SUV. The price hike will be effective from January 1, 2022. That said, the company has clarified that prices of the recently launched Tiguan mid-size SUV won't be hiked. The company has increased prices due to rise in input and operational costs and has said that it has tried not to shift the entire cost burden onto its customers.

Commenting on the announcement, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, "Our efforts over the years has been to make our brand, products and services more accessible and establish Volkswagen as the brand of choice amongst our customers. Due to the substantial increase in the input and operational costs, we have decided to hike the prices of our product offering ranging from 2 per cent to 5 per cent and keeping the impact on customers at a minimal level."

The price hike is essentially done to the cyclical revisions of prices that happens at the beginning of a new calendar year and Volkswagen is not the only carmaker increasing prices of its models. Carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Skoda Auto, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz Among others have already announced upward price revision for the coming year. Even two-wheeler manufacturers like Hero MotoCorp, Honda two-wheelers India, Royal Enfield, TVS Motor Company, Yamaha India, Kawasaki and Ducati India among others have either increased or will be increasing the prices of their select models from January 2022.
