Highlights

Being able to produce cars that are able to stay in the market for a long time and be branded as reliable is an accomplishment that every company desperately tries to work for. A lot of thought goes into the design, production, and overall cost of the vehicle. This way, the cars are able to enjoy a long run. There have been some bikes and cars in India that have achieved such tenures – let's take a look at those!

    Hindustan Ambassador (1957-2014)

This car might just be the most recognizable car in Indian history. Ask anyone if they know about the Hindustan Ambassador, and their answer will be a resounding yes. The car has been an essential part of the fleet that carries politicians and even prime ministers of our country. Sadly, the car was discontinued in 2014, but its memory still remains.

    Premier Padmini 110 (1964-2000)

The Padmini was a strong rival to Ambassador and was genuinely considered to be more user-friendly, and thus middle-class families loved the Padmini. The car briefly had a diesel engine at its helm, which was later replaced by petrol. Bollywood movies have immortalized Padmini as the "Kaali-Peeli taxi."

    Maruti Omni (1984-2019)

Ask any kid about the van that they have taken while going to school; the chances are that most of them would say Maruti Omni. One of the best things about Omni is its unique design that attracted customers. The car wasn't originally started as a family car but was later tweaked to make it more comfortable.

    Maruti Gypsy (1985-2019)

Coming right after Omni, Gypsy was Maruti's foray into making off-road vehicles. If someone visits any police station across India, this car would probably be the most present. The fabric roof at the back had a special appeal to it!

    Maruti 800 SB308 (1986-2014)

The Maruti 800 is a compact car but became a household name as soon as it was released. It was extremely affordable for middle-class families and was a primary choice for beginners.

    Tata Sumo (1994-2019)

Tata's first foray into the UV market turned out to be a grand success for the company!

    Royal Enfield Bullet 350 (1956-2010)

In partnership with Madras Motors, Royal Enfield launched the "Bullet" in 1956. Many parts of the vehicle were imported completely from outside.

    Escorts Rajdoot 175 (1962-2005)

Polish motorcycle SHL M11's rights were transferred to Escorts, and they managed to create a behemoth in the shape of Escorts Rajdoot.

    Hero Honda Splendor (1994-Present)

This one is still going on despite the changing times. The Splendor's look and affordability caught on in the Indian market!
