Unwritten Driving Etiquettes That Everyone Must Follow

While driving on the road, all vehicles are expected to follow certain etiquettes to ensure a safer driving experience, not only for themselves but also for other travelers. While there are specific rules that the authorities have implemented, it is the responsibility of drivers to abide by them.

No drinking and driving
This is one of the most basic rules that any driver should follow. Drinking and driving is one of the most dangerous acts on the road that could endanger the driver and other passengers on the road. When one is drunk, they are not in control of their motor skills, which could lead to severe accidents. If a person is drunk, they shouldn't be behind the wheel.
Removing distractions
One of the most significant distractions on the road is smartphones. People tend to multi-task – use the phone and drive. That could lead to major accidents that can simply be prevented by removing distractions. If there is an urgent text or call that should be attended to, pull over, finish the task and then start driving again.

Respecting limits and traffic rules
There are speed limits of various roads that drivers should follow. Make sure that there is no over-speeding as that could lead to accidents. Respect traffic lights and don't jump them. Make sure that all the rules are followed, and then the journey will be safe for everyone.
Maintaining a safe distance
One should always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle above. This is important since any obstacle or sudden halt could lead to the vehicles colliding. Maintain a distance so that any immediate changes could be attended to and people can have a safe journey.
Knowing the lane
There are two simple distinctions – the right lane is for speeding vehicles and vehicles that wish to overtake; the left lane is for people who want to drive slower. Do not abruptly change lanes as that could overwhelm the other drivers behind. Check the mirrors and blind spots before making a lane change.

Merging Cautiously
People tend to not assess the traffic on a highway and then merge carelessly, which is one of the leading causes of accidents. Most of the roads aren't designed for safe merging, so the drivers need to be extra careful. Analyze the speed of the cars on the highway and then merge; only merge when there is a significant distance from an oncoming car and prefer merging onto the left-most lane as that is for slower cars. Be careful while making U-turns as well.
Parking properly
Parking in unsuitable places makes it difficult for other drivers on the road. Ensure to park or halt at such a place where the traffic isn't disrupted. If in case the vehicle has broken down due to an unfortunate incident, make sure to push the vehicle to the left-most side of the road. Leaving the vehicle stranded is not only careless but also illegal.
