Two-Wheelers Sales for June 2016: Positive Growth Continues

- The first 6 months of 2016 have been positive for 2-wheeler manufacturers
- Royal Enfield's sales grew by 36% overall in June 2016
- Yamaha sold 31% more units in June 2016 as compared to June 2015
India is still booming as a market for two-wheelers and this shows in the growth of Royal Enfield and Yamaha. Both the manufacturers showed positive growth in the domestic sector while Royal Enfield exported more than the double of what it did in June last year. The first six months of 2016 have been more or less good for two-wheeler manufacturers and with some really important launches such as the Bajaj Pulsar CS 400 and the BMW G 310 R, the next six months should be equally fruitful for them.
1. Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield is in the middle of a purple patch. Its sales for the month of June 2016 grew by an overall 36 per cent. It sold 49,060 units last month as compared to 36,597 units sold in June 2015. As far as exports are concerned, Royal Enfield sold 1,644 units against 744 units, which is a massive growth of 118 per cent. Also, it opened an exclusive store in Manila, Philippines and has started selling its merchandise and riding gear on Flipkart.com. The iconic manufacturer recently overtook Yamaha as the 5th biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in India. Good times are here for Royal Enfield.

2. Yamaha

The Japanese manufacturer's sales grew by a respectable 31 per cent in June 2016 as against June 2015. It sold 67,203 units last month in comparison to 51,432 units sold in the same month last year. Yamaha launched the disc-brake version of its Cygnus Alpha scooter and Cygnus Ray-ZR as well. Also, it is increasingly setting its focus on expansion in Tier II and Tier III cities in India. One of the major reasons for the sales numbers to be increasing. Commenting on the company's sustained growth, Mr. Roy Kurian, Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, "In the first half of 2016, Yamaha etched a remarkable growth trend along with the introduction of new two wheelers for urban onlookers and non-urban commuters. The new Cygnus Ray-ZR and Saluto RX along with the Fascino, FZ series and R series is ready to take on the market and Yamaha is spot on as it caters to various needs of Indian two-wheeler buyers. Yamaha will also continue to focus on customer centric activities." The 4-wheeler sales for the month of June 2016 has been a mixed bag. Some manufacturers saw positive growth while some of them saw a decline as well.
