Both the Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT are powered by the same 2,458cc triple engine, which delivers 221 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm, the world's highest torque on a production motorcycle. Maximum power is a claimed 165 bhp at 6,000 rpm. The six-speed gearbox is paired with a torque-assist hydraulic clutch. The Rocket 3's suspension package includes a fully adjustable Showa monoshock rear suspension with piggy-back reservoir and 47 mm upside down Showa cartridge front forks, adjustable for compression and rebound damping. Braking duties are handled by top-notch Brembo Stylema four-piston radial monobloc calipers gripping twin 320 mm floating discs on the front wheel, and a Brembo M4.32 four-piston monobloc caliper gripping a 300 mm single disc on the rear wheel. The wheels are lightweight cast aluminium and come fitted with Avon Cobra Chrome tyres.
Both the 221 Special Edition R and GT models come with the standard specification of the base models, including cornering ABS, cornering traction control, both powered by a sophisticated inertial measurement unit (IMU). Four riding modes are standard, and include Road, Rain, Sport and Rider-configurable.
The instruments are full-TFT and are angle-adjustable, and also offer two layout themes which can be personalised. Both Rocket 221 editions come equipped with hill hold control, cruise control, keyless ignition and keyless steering lock, as well as an underseat USB charging socket. The Triumph Rocket 3 221 Special Edition models will have a limited production run, but we expect some units of the bikes to be introduced in India as well.
