But the British specialty marque Trident had something else in mind. They were working on making the fastest diesel sportscar and now it has announced that the Iceni will be available on order.
The small-volume automaker introduced the two-seater Iceni sportscar in 2008. Four years later, the Grand Tourer followed and now there are three models up for sale on order: Iceni, Iceni Magna (fastback) and Iceni Venturer (estate).
The Iceni gets a 6.6-litre turbodiesel V8 engine which is what makes it the "world's fastest diesel sports car." The big V8 develops 395bhp and 948Nm and a dash from 0-100km/h takes 3.8 seconds. The Iceni is tops out at 306km/h but if that was not enough, there is more.
Trident will offer an optional performance upgrade pack which ups the power to 430 bhp and 1286 Nm of torque. There is also a track performance pack which brings in adds to the output and the figures stand at 660 bhp and 1422 Nm.
But the company hasn't kept the upgrades limited to the engine. There is also a luxury pack which brings a two-tone Alcantara & leather interior, heated mirrors, smoked roof and a Clarion multimedia system with seven-inch display.
Trident says that the Iceni can provide a maximum range of 3218 km on a single tank of mineral diesel or bio-diesel. The Iceni has been priced at approximately Rs. 98 lakhs.
