Exclusive: Toyota Urban Cruiser Scores 4-Star Rating In Global NCAP Crash Test

The results of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Crash Test is at par with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that got a similar rating when it was crash tested back in September 2018.

Ever since Toyota and Maruti Suzuki agreed to share models in India, we had several questions in our minds. How different will they look, what all feature differences will they have, how'll be the performance and dynamics and so on. While we eventually got all these answers when we saw and drove the cars, there was one very important query that remained unresolved! 'How safer will the Toyotas be than the Marutis?' Well! Global NCAP has tested the Toyota Urban Cruiser for the frontal offset crash test at 64 kmph and the subcompact SUV has bagged a respectable 4-star rating for adult occupant safety with 13.52 points out of 17, while it achieved 3-stars for child occupant safety with 36.68 points out of 49. carandbike reached out to Toyota India for a comment on the safety scores and will update this piece as and when the company responds.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser scored a respectable 4-star rating for adult occupant safety and 3-star for child occupant safety.

Yes! The result is at par with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that got a similar rating when it was crash tested back in September 2018. And it received 12.51 points for adult occupant and 17.93 points for child occupant safety. Given that it's Toyota, we expected it to make some changes to the car for enhanced safety and certainly seems to have delivered. The bodyshell of the car was rated as stable. Having said that, the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 still maintain supreme with a full 5-star crash test rating.

The crash tested model was equipped with standard safety features like dual-airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and four-channel antilock braking system (ABS).

The base trim of the Toyota Urban Cruiser that underwent testing tipped the scales at 1324 kg.
