The day is close when we see cars fly past our windows but where we envision them to be sleek for, let's face it, aerodynamics; there is an automotive design artist Marco van Overbeeke who shows off that the period of the 'Jetsons' could be nigh. Vintage is the future!

This future of flying cars is shown in the shape of a classic bubble-shaped microcar. Well, here it is, his creation - the Hoverschmitt 5000 - a concept based around the 1950s Messerschmitt KR200 microcar.

It is a known fact that before Messerschmitt began making microcars, they were into building sports and passenger, and war planes. However, World War II changed everything, and that's when they turned to microcars.

Overbeeke has changed the KR200 into a thing that can fly and also fits Messerschmitt's rich heritage. This digital manipulation sees the Messerschmitt with chopped wheels and extended wheel-arches with hover technology.

Then there is the F1 inspired cooling duct mounted on top, which is rather cool. Overbeeke has also added vintage racing livery, complete with sponsorship for Messerschmitt. I think this vintage take on the flying microcar is absolutely fantastic.
