Tesla To Add 1,000 New FSD Beta Testers Per Day Based On Safety Score
Highlights
- Musk said that the update will be shared on the basis of safety records
- Teslas CEO had been hyping the update since last year
- The FSD software is still classified as level 2 autonomous
Tesla has been talking up its FSD (full self-driving) beta for a very long time. It recently deployed the V10 of it to its beta testers and now it has an ambitious plan to start adding 1000 per day based on their safety score. This is part of the wider release plan which was first supposed to be launched six months ago. People will have to request for the beta software to be installed on their vehicles depending on it having the FSD package. The moment one requests the software update, for a short period, Tesla will start monitoring the driving patterns of the user and then will add the user in a queue to get the update.
"Wow, lot of interest in FSD beta! The plan is to roll out version 10.2 midnight Friday, then on-ramp 1,000 owners/day, prioritised by the safety rating. The first few days probably 100/100, then 99, 98, etc." revealed Elon Musk in a series of tweets.
Musk clarified the V10.2 update will be launched a week from Friday. As of now, there are approximately 2000 people who are using the update. The update comes with a promise of full self-driving capability that's not there currently, but in the future, Tesla could scale to higher levels of autonomy. Officially, what Tesla is offering even in a beta state is fundamentally level 2 autonomy.
Tesla FSD beta testers can virtually drive themselves both on highways and city streets by simply adding a location in the navigation system, but since supervision is mandated all the time, it is considered level 2 autonomous capability. The driver needs to have his/her hands on the steering wheel all the time for this feature to work.
