- The Tesla Model Y has been spotted testing in India for the first time
- The Model Y is based on the same platform as the Model 3
- The Tesla Model Y is offered as both a 5- and 7-seater SUV
US electric carmaker Tesla's arrival in India has been a major topic of discussion for various reasons. One of them has been the fact that the brand will finally launch its long-awaited Model 3 electric sedan in India soon. While we have already seen several spy photos of the electric sedan, recently, photos of the carmaker's entry-level SUV, the Tesla Model Y, has also been spotted testing in India, without any camouflage. Based on the same platform as the Model 3, globally Tesla offers the Model Y in both 5- and 7-seater configurations.

The Tesla Model Y looks like a more scaled-up version of the electric sedan with a taller roof that gives it a crossover-like stance
While these photos aren't the cleanest ones out there, the Tesla Model Y shares a lot of its visual trains with the Model 3. In fact, it looks like a more scaled-up version of the electric sedan with a taller roof that gives it a crossover-like stance. Upfront, we get a sculpted face with sweptback headlamps, no grille and a wide central airdam. The profile shows the silver alloy wheels, while at the rear we get to see the familiar LED taillights, with a sharp-looking boot lid and cladded rear bumper.

We do not get to see the cabin here, however, based on photos of the global spec model, we know that it will come with a minimalist cabin, featuring dual-tone black and white interior with large seats draped in white upholstery. The dashboard will feature a multifunctional steering wheel and digital instrument cluster and a large 15-inch touchscreen display which is the main command centre of the car. Like the Model 3, the Model Y also comes with a larger tinted glass roof, along with the company's autopilot system.

The Tesla Model Y Electric SUV is offered in two options Long Range AWD and Performance
Globally, the Tesla Model Y is offered in two options Long Range AWD and Performance. Both models come with dual electric motors, one for each axle, offering an electric all-wheel drive (AWD) function. The former Long Range option offers a range of up to 505 km and can do a 0-97 kmph sprint in less than 4.8 seconds. The more powerful Performance variant does the same sprint in about 3.5 seconds but offers a reduced electric range of 480 km.
