Tata Hexa, the long awaited crossover-SUV from the home-grown auto manufacturer is all set to go on sale in India in January 2017. We have already drive the car in India and feel Tata finally has a worthy product in the premium crossover-SUV space to compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV500. So why is Tata taking more time to launch the Hexa? Well, because the carmaker is still working on improvising the Hexa based on the inputs received from experts. Tata has been putting the car through its paces for quite a few months now and we spotted the near-production version of the car several times.
The Tata Hexa that we last spotted was the top-of-the-line XT variant and came in a Metallic Blue colour. As mentioned in our earlier reports, the new Tata Hexa comes with a muscular and stylish exterior profile featuring projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, beefy front bumper, black chrome grille, and muscular character lines across the bonnet and side profile. To bring out its SUV DNA, Tata has even added features like plastic cladding under the wheel arches, sporty 19-inch alloy wheels, and long roof rails. In terms of dimensions, the Hexa measures 4788mm in length, 1903mm in width and 1791mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2850mm and a ground clearance of 200mm. The Hexa also comes with a massive 60-litre fuel tank.

Under the hood, the car will be powered by the same 2.2-litre VARICOR 400 diesel engine that does duty on the top-of-the-line Tata Safari Storme VARICOR 400. The beastly oil burner produces 154bhp and develops a meaty peak torque of 400Nm. While the Hexa we saw came with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the car will also come with the option of a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission. The Hexa will also come with a 4x4 system.
Engines | 2.2-Litre VARICOR 400 Diesel |
Displacement | 2179cc |

Apparently, Tata had already revealed certain specification of the car, when it showcased the Hexa early this year at the 2016 Auto Expo. Upon launch, the Hexa will be positioned above the Tata Safari Storme, taking its rightful place as the company's flagship SUV in India. In India, the Tata Hexa will go up against the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and Toyota Innova Crysta.
