Suzuki to also Focus on Motorcycle Segment; New Bikes Lined-Up

Suzuki Motorcycle gets 80 percent of its revenue from selling scooters and the balance from motorcycles which is reversal of the industry trend. The company will also consolidate its position in the motorcycles segment launching new models in the months to come.

    With the scooter sales clocking good growth in the two wheeler segment, Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd (SMIL) is hoping to clock higher sales with its new model and also consolidate its motorcycle business, said a senior company official. The company will also increase its distribution network to 1,000 points from the current 600 and look at exports to Latin American countries.

    "Eighty percent of our sales comes from selling scooters and the balance from motorcycles. With our new scooter LET'S, we will be increasing scooter sales by 10,000 units per month," executive vice president Atul Gupta told reporters here Tuesday.

    The company launched the new vehicle targeted at the youth here at a price of Rs.46,925 (ex-showroom Chennai).

    According to president - sales and marketing operation, Ichiro Kondo, the Indian two-wheeler market is around 1.5 crore units per annum and is growing at five percent rate.

    Gupta said the company gets 80 percent of its revenue from selling scooters and the balance from motorcycles which is reversal of the industry trend.

    He said SMIL will also consolidate its position in the motorcycles segment launching new models in the months to come.

    Last fiscal, the company sold 370,000 units out of which the scooters accounted for around 270,000 units and the balance were motorcycles. The company's total production capacity is around 540,000 units per annum.

    According to Konda, the company has started shipping out units to neighbouring countries and is also looking at Latin American nations.
