Imagine this: you have waited eagerly for this moment; the moment when you lay hands on your vehicle. More often than not, that joy is marred by the formalities you need to get done with, before you can finally enjoy your purchase in peace. The acquisition of the vehicle's registration certificate (RC) can be quite the process even though it's mostly the dealer's headache. However, that's about to change, for soon people will be able to get their vehicle's registration certificate within minutes.

The transport ministry is putting together a new mechanism which will allow the vehicle's details to be recorded from the manufacturing level. This mechanism will also ensure that no wrong data and details are recorded. Rumoured to be ready for a launch soon, the system will leave no scope for dealers to deceive their customers.

Once the manufacturer submits a vehicle for type approval, details will be entered by authorised test agencies while approving it. After that, the manufacturer will enter all essential details including chassis and engine number. Then, upon arriving at the dealership, the dealer will have to enter certain records before processing the RC. The current process requires dealers to enter all details before the RC is issued.

While the registration certificates for cars and bikes are issued at dealerships, those for heavy vehicles are issued at RTOs. This, usually, takes hours; the new system is claimed to cut this down.
