Skoda Slavia Compact Sedan: 5 Things To Know

Skoda Auto India recently revealed the Slavia compact sedan, which replaces the Rapid. It's the first sedan to be built on the MQB A0-IN platform shared with the Kushaq and VW Taigun. The Czech carmaker is already accepting pre-bookings for the sedan, while deliveries will begin in early 2022. Skoda will offer the new Slavia in three variants - Active, Ambition and Style. Here are five things you need to know about the new Skoda Slavia sedan, which will go on sale in India early next year.

1. Aesthetically, the Skoda Slavia sports a signature-style butterfly grille with vertical slats and chrome surrounds, sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs, multi-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, fender garnish with chrome outline, circular fog lamps, shark fin antenna, signature C-shaped split LED taillamps and more. It will be available in five colours - Candy White, Brilliant Silver, Carbon Steel, Tornado Red and Crystal Blue.
2. Dimension-wise, the sedan measures 4,541 mm in length, while its width stands at 1,752 mm. The compact sedan is also 1,487 mm tall, and its wheelbase remains at 2,651 mm. The car has the longest wheelbase in its class, and the carmaker says it is bigger than the first-gen Octavia sedan.
3. The Slavia gets a well-laid-out cabin, which takes inspiration from all recent Skoda cars. It comes loaded with a 10-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a signature two-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, a fully-digital 8-inch instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, auto day/night IRVM, rear AC vents and more.

4. Under the hood, the Skoda Slavia will get the same 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI unit, powering the Kushaq SUV. Both are turbocharged petrol motors. While the former is good for 113 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque, the latter develops 148 bhp and 250 Nm. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter (1.0L) and a 7-speed DSG automatic (1.5L).

5. The upcoming Skoda Slavia compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the compact sedan segment. It will also rival VW's upcoming sedan that will be a replacement for the Vento in India
