Skoda India Rapid Edition X Revealed; To Replace Monte Carlo Edition
Highlights
- The Skoda Rapid Edition X will get the same features as the Monte Carlo
- The Edition X will be available in two colours
- There will be no mechanical changes made to the car
Skoda India launched the Rapid Monte Carlo Edition in August this year and priced it at Rs. 10.75 lakh. But the company has been banned from using the Monte Carlo name in India on any of its cars. The ban comes via a temporary injunction by a district court issued a few days ago that cites trademark infringement by the automaker. The trademark for the 'Monte Carlo' nameplate apparently lies with a clothing and apparel manufacturer from Punjab that took the matter to court in order to stop the automaker from using the name. Incidentally, Monte Carlo is an area in the principality or country of Monaco in the French Riviera and Skoda officially pays the current monarchy for the rights to use the Monte Carlo brand for its exclusive series cars.
The solution to all these problems faced by the company is the launch of the Rapid Edition X which is essentially a re-badged Rapid Monte Carlo. Visually, we expect no change in the way it looks when compared to the Monte Carlo Edition. So, the Rapid Edition X will be available in dual- colour options - Flash Red with black roof and Candy White with black roof. The car also gets other cosmetic additions like stylish black treatment on the front grille, headlamp inserts, body accents, ORVMs, and the tail lamp cluster along with new dual tone 16-inch alloy wheels and the rear black grained diffuser enhances the car's sporty character.

The driver and passengers sit on special sporty Monte Carlo leatherette seats in a black/red design with grey vertical stripes. To further enhance the sporty character of the car, the Monte Carlo also comes with ribbed stainless steel pedals and a sporty graphic instrument cluster. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS, Parktonic rear parking sensors, central locking system with remote control, electronic stability control, and hill hold assist among others. Other features include - rain sensing wiper system, cooled glove box, cruise control and more.
The Rapid rivals the likes of the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
