Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Spotted Testing in India
Highlights
The upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has been spied again testing on Indian roads. Set to be part of a line-up of larger mid-capacity models from Royal Enfield, the Himalayan 450 is expected to have been developed on an all-new chassis as well as getting an all-new engine. The idea is to build upon the entry-level adventure idea that the Himalayan started for Royal Enfield, but to also give it more spunk, and capability.
The camouflaged test mule was caught on video though the bike was only seen from a rear angle. The video itself revealed a few details about the bike such as the high-set rear fender housing the number plate and tail-lamp and the upright seating position. Also visible was a saree guard - a mandatory fitment in India, a short upright fly screen and a high-set circular instrument pod.

Previous images of the motorcycle caught on international roads revealed more of the design which while similar to the current Himalayan had a number of design changes. The 450 seemed to sit on a longer wheelbase than the 411 with the fuel tank also appearing to be larger and longer. The test mule got long travel suspension front and rear with elements such as the jerry can holders alongside the fuel tank having been retained from the current 411.

The image shows the Himalayan 450 sporting long travel suspension, an elongated fuel tank, a long split seat and an exposed tail section. The bike seems to sport a longer wheelbase than the Himalayan 411. The short flyscreen and the jerrycan holders around the fuel tank are carried over from the current Himalayan. The Himalayan 450 test bike also got the staggered wheel set-up with a larger front wheel. Also visible in the images was disc brakes on both ends.
Coming to the engine, while details are yet to be confirmed, the new Himalayan 450 is expected to get a higher capacity liquid-cooled engine. The unit is likely to feature a dual overhead cam set-up and could be paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. The new Himalayan 450 is expected to make its debut sometime next year.
