Like other two-wheeler manufacturers, Royal Enfield announced a donation of Rs. 2 crore to the Tamil Nadu Disaster Relief Fund in a bid to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Vinod Dasari, CEO, Royal Enfield, met MK Stalin, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu, and presented him with a cheque of Rs. 2 crore for COVID-19 relief work. Tamil Nadu is among the worst-hit states by COVID-19. In light of the second wave of the pandemic, Royal Enfield temporarily halted manufacturing operations at its plants in Chennai, from May 13 to May 16, 2021. During that time, the company undertook maintenance activity at its manufacturing plants. RE has three plants in Chennai, one each in Thiruvottiyur, Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal.

Speaking on the occasion, Vinod Dasari said, "Tamil Nadu is the home of Royal Enfield motorcycles and we are committed to support the state in all its efforts to combat the devastating second wave of the pandemic. Our commitment to extend support to the state government today is being accompanied by a host of initiatives that Royal Enfield is undertaking in the region to extend relief to the community. We continue to assess the situation closely and will undertake any further steps required to extend further support towards relief and rehabilitation efforts in the long run."

Royal Enfield's monthly sales in May 2021 reflect the challenges faced by the automobile industry as lockdowns across several states and regions continue as India battles the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2021, Royal Enfield reported sales of just 20,073 units in the domestic market, slipping 58.8 per cent from 48,789 units sold in April 2021. In fact, last year, in May 2020, sales were even lower due to the lockdown imposed in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Royal Enfield had recorded sales of just 18,429 units.
