Highlights

While the most fuel-efficient cars in India return figures like 27.62Km/l, there's a car manufacturer that is working on a car that will return a number that will more than just surprise you. Rumour claims that BMW is working on an extremely fuel-efficient car that consumes just 0.4l/100Km i.e. returns 250Km/l.

A report in the Automobilwoche claims the aforementioned Bimmer is a 4-seater with a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic body and an extremely low drag coefficient. Apparently it also weighs less than 1200Kg.

Now, about what will power this car? Though not much is known about the engine, word has it that the model will be powered by an electric motor and a 2-cylinder petrol engine (generator).

    Volkswagen XL1

This reminds us of another vehicle that promises an equally exciting mileage, though less than the one claimed for this rumoured BMW. Volkswagen's XL1 is a diesel powered plug-in hybrid that returns almost 111Km/l. The XL1 gets a 800cc TDI 2-cylinder diesel engine that is paired to an electric motor. While the TDI develops 47bhp, the electric motor puts out 27bhp, thus taking the total power output to 74bhp.
