Renault has unveiled the Eolab concept which, the company said, is designed to be one of the most fuel efficient models ever created. The Eolab has an asymmetric 3-door layout and a drag coefficient of just 0.235.

Renault mentions that the car has an active front spoiler and active rear flaps which open to cool the brakes and close to reduce drag. The concept also has an active suspension that automatically adjusts the ride height to minimize drag.

Renault has taken a few more steps to improve the Eolab's fuel efficiency and has used a multi-material body shell constructed out of steel, aluminum and composites. It also receives a magnesium roof, ultra-thin windscreen glass and a lightweight interior. All these changes have had a significant impact on the weight.

Power is provided by a Z.E. Hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, a 6.7 kWh battery and a clutchless 3-gear transmission with an integrated electric motor. The engine produces 75bhp and 95Nm of torque, while the electric motor develops about 67bhp and 200Nm of torque.

The car therefore consumes 1L/100km of petrol and the electric range of 60km adds to the number. While the Eolab won't be going into production, Renault says concept has 100 new and realistic technological developments that are designed to be introduced gradually on upcoming Renault vehicles.
