Renault India has been facing stiff competition from carmakers like Mahindra and Hyundai in the highly competitive Utility Vehicle (UV) segment. However, that may be about to change for reports claim the French carmaker is planning to bring in a bunch of new products to counter its rivals. One of those products will be a 7-seater premium SUV, codenamed 'HHA', that will rival the Mahindra XUV500, and the upcoming Honda BR-V among others in the league.

The 7-seater SUV will take its design inspiration from the company's popular global crossover - the Captur. The Captur, however, is built on the new-generation Clio platform, and the India-bound HHA will share its underpinnings with the Duster to keep its prices under check. And now that the company has been already developing the Duster and the Lodgy on the same platform, it will help the company price it competitive and launch it on the projected time i.e. 2017. Just so you know, the same vehicle will also be launched in other emerging markets like Brazil and Russia.

Besides the new 7-seater SUV, Renault has plans to give a mid-life facelift to the Duster as well, which is expected to be launched by the end of this fiscal. There will be two more utility vehicles - an SUV and MPV - based on the CMF-A platform that are expected to come post the launch of Captur-inspired 7-seater SUV.

With all these new vehicles, Renault India seems to have made up its mind to encash the growing popularity for UVs in India - a segment that is currently ruled by Mahindra & Mahindra.
