Speaking with ET Auto, a Pune RTO official said, "The increase started from October as many relaxations were in place, which resulted in people finding the need to buy two-wheelers." Having said that, the official also added that while the increase in November registrations is certainly an encouraging sign, it will take a while before they are back to pre-pandemic levels. He even said that two-wheeler registrations for 2020 and 2021 have been dismal compared to the number of vehicles registered in Pune before the pandemic. "The pandemic has been the main reason for the same as it resulted in multiple lockdowns, which resulted in the closure of all institutions including schools, colleges and offices," the RTO official added.

Dealers have also indicated a growing demand for electric two-wheelers

Dealers are citing the opening of many offices and educational institutions as one of the main reasons for this growth in two-wheeler registrations. Most two-wheeler buyers come from this segment. Sharing similar views were shared by Amar J Sheth, the chairperson of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), who said two-wheelers are the preferred mode of daily transportation for these customers. Dealers have also indicated a growing demand for electric two-wheelers. As for December, dealers are expecting registrations to remain low as with the new year approaching, customers intending to buy a new vehicle will wait for January to get 2022 registrations, as they commend better resale value.
