Highlights

It was in 2014 that the Volkswagen T-Roc concept first hit the scenes and the project received the go ahead only in March this year after which there's been a lot of work done to make sure that the production model lives up to the strong statement that the concept made when it was unveiled in Geneva. A short video released by Volkswagen, shows the ongoing development on the T-Roc SUV and also gives us a glimpse of what the car will look like. We've already told you that Volkswagen was in fact working on bringing out the production version of the T-Roc SUV this year and from the looks of it, we will see it make an appearance at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, the two-door concept that debuted two years ago featured a new design line, LED headlights, and interior style, and came loaded with provisions such as front and rear cameras. The production model of the new Golf-based SUV will be a five-door car that will sport styling elements typical to the German carmaker. Inside, the Volkswagen T-ROC will borrow its dashboard and provisions such as an infotainment system with a 9.2-inch touchscreen, speech and gesture control, etc. from the new Volkswagen Golf.

The new Volkswagen Golf-based SUV, which will be positioned below the Tiguan SUV, will receive a myriad of petrol and engine options, including 113bhp 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol, 1.5-litre TSI Evo petrol, and 1.6-litre & 2.0-litre diesel engines. Likely to be offered with front- and four-wheel drive, the VW T-ROC's choice of gearboxes will include a six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG automatic. With that said, there are other Volkswagen T-ROC models in the pipeline too - T-ROC GTE (plug-in hybrid) and e-T-ROC (all-electric).
