Polestar which is a joint venture between Volvo and Geely has revealed that it will be launching its slick 884 bhp electric roadster which is based on its O2 concept in 2026. The company expects the cutting-edge electric car to go into production by 2026 and customers will be able to reserve and build slots online now.

“A perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down,” said Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar. While details are limited apart from the 884 bhp powertrains and the cycled polyester upholstery, it will use the same bonded aluminium platform and 800-volt battery architecture that will also be used on the Polestar 5 GT.

The Polestar 5 GT has dual motors and can do a 0-100 kph acceleration in 3.2 seconds. In the case of the Polestar 6, there will be 500 limited edition models called the Polestar 6 LA Concept. These models will get sky blue interiors, leather upholstery and 21-inch wheels.

The company has now spun out of the Volvo and Geely joint venture to merge with SPAC Gorges Guggenheim at a whopping $20 billion valuation. It also raised $890 million from the deal to fund its development for the next three years. This includes scaling its operations, adding a second shift in the factory in China and starting production of the Polestar 3 SUV in October in Volvo’s factory in the US.

In 2023, the Polestar 4 mid-size crossover will come out and 2024 will feature the Polestar 5 GT which has five doors. This comes after Polestar revealed in July that it was on track to sell 50,000 cars this year. It has ambitions of launching in over 30 countries by the end of 2023 and wants to be selling 290,000 cars by the end of 2025 which is 10x growth in the next 3 years.
