Planning To Buy A Maruti Suzuki S-Presso? Pros & Cons

Maruti Suzuki India entered the micro-SUV segment with the launch of the S-Presso in September 2019. The car is based on the Future S concept that was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Prices of the S-Presso begin from Rs. 3.78 lakh, going up to Rs. 5.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It comes with a tall, upright stance, decent ground clearance and bold design with SUV-like characteristics. If you're considering buying the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, here are a few pros and cons you should know.

Pros

1. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso comes with SUV-ish proportions thanks to the upright stance. It also gets raised ground clearance of 180 mm, bold claddings all-around as well as almost vertical pillars.
2. The S-Presso gets a funky and smart-looking all-black cabin with a dashboard that gets body-coloured inserts. The main highlight is the round centre console that takes inspiration from the Mini Cooper.

3. The car comes equipped with the brand's SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, which has smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
4. The S-Presso uses the company's tried and tested 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine, making 67 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm with manual and AMT options. The car also comes in a CNG version, offering an impressive fuel economy of 31.2 km/kg.
5. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has a wheelbase of 2380 mm offering a good headroom and knee room at the rear.

Cons

1. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso looks boring and outdated with an unattractive design. Although looks and styling is a subjective matter, we feel that it could have been more aggressive-looking.
2. The car misses several essential features such as rear power windows, day/night IRVM, rear defogger. Maruti could have offered these features on the higher trims.
3. Though it gets a driver-side airbag, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors as standard, the car scored zero-star crash test rating in the Global NCAP. We think Maruti Suzuki S-Presso could have had better structural safety. Passenger-side airbag and seatbelt reminder for both front passengers are offered as standard on top-end trim only.

4. With a width of 1520 mm, the car is best suited for 4 adults. It becomes a bit cramped for three adult passengers in the rear seat. However, accommodating two adult passengers and a child is not much of an issue.
5. The engine is a bit noisy and sound damping could've been a lot better, particularly from the engine bay.
