Paris Motor Show 2016: New-Gen Hyundai i30 Hatchback Makes Public Debut
Highlights
- This is the 3rd generation of the i30
- The new i30 will usher in the next era of Hyundai's design language
- The car comes with three petrol engines and one diesel motor
The new Hyundai i30 hatchback is built on the company latest design language, like the new-gen Elantra and the upcoming Verna. That is why you'll see that the car now comes with Hyundai's latest Cascading grille design bordered by chrome outline. The all-new headlamps look sharp and stylish and come with LED projector units. The well-sculpted front bumper adds to the car's sporty character with it muscular lines, larger air intakes and LED daytime running lights. The bonnet shows a bit of muscle as well and similar character lines run across the side profile of the car as well.
The rear profile of the car has also been worked upon and we have to say its looks very European. The curvy rear profile of the outgoing model has been replaced by a well-chiselled hatch door that is very much in line with the car's new design. The new i30 also comes with redesigned tail lamps and black rear spoiler and a blacked roof. Other exterior features include new electrical ORVMs with integrated turn signal lights and sporty alloy wheels.
The cabin is also all-new and Hyundai has gone with a more subtle design rather that the busy layout of the outgoing model. In fact, the new cabin slightly resembles the Hyundai Ioniq's interior. The dashboard looks very horizontal dominated by an 8-inch floating touchscreen display at the centre. The car comes with a new three-spoke steering wheel instead of the older four spoke one with well-placed function buttons. The dashboard also features large horizontal air vents along with a hexagonal control panel at the centre. The car also gets sporty aluminium foot pedals and a number of well-designed cubby holes and storage compartments.
Under the hood, the new-gen i30 comes powered by three petrol engines - a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre MPI along with a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre T-GDI turbocharged units, and a 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine. All the engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission as an option.
It must be noted, that the Hyundai i30 will not make the journey to India in all probability - not anytime soon anyway.
