Original Batmobile Up For Grabs
Highlights
We've had so many Batmans till date; from Adam West to Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer, from George Clooney to Christian Bale, we've seen them all. There were two more, I know, but that's not what I am talking about. The 7 Batmans meant they had to have their own car, and even though the first one didn't really have it, there was a hankering for a car that Batman would drive.
And thus, the Batmobile was born. Which leads us to this news: the first officially licensed Batmobile is being sold by Heritage Auctions, with a starting bid of $90,000. Based on a 1956 Oldsmobile 88, the car was developed by Forrest Robinson along with his friend, Len Perham.
The Batmobile in question has pocket sliding doors, a bat-nose front and the familiar dorsal fin. The body had been changed to make it more bat-like. It's 5181mm long and 2108mm wide, and was built between 1960 and 1963, so it was completed three years before the 1966 Barris Batmobile.
The original Batmobile was eventually sold for $200 and several years later, the vehicle was abandoned in a New Hampshire field. After 40 years, the car was acquired by Toy Car Exchange LLC who shipped it to Sacramento where Borbon Fabrications restored it to what it is now.
It is an amazing find, and if you are a big fan of the superhero or his cars, here's your chance!
