  • Owner faced issues with performance and range
  • First reported instance of owner setting his scooter on fire
  • Scooter was delivered about 3 months ago

An Ola Electric S1 Pro owner in Tamil Nadu set his scooter on fire reportedly disgruntled with the scooter's performance and erratic range. This is the first such incident currently reported where a scooter owner set their own vehicle on fire. The video of the incident surfaced on Sun News showing the owner pouring petrol over the scooter by the side of a road before setting it alight.

While we don't have all the details, reports say, the owner, Dr Prithviraj was unhappy with the scooter's performance and erratic range. Prithviraj took delivery of the electric scooter 3 months ago and faced issues with the model on three separate occasions. Ola Support is said to have inspected his scooter but found nothing to be wrong with it.

In the latest and last incident, the scooter, reportedly on a full charge, ran out of range in just 44km. Angered by facing these issues with the scooter, the owner poured petrol over the scooter and set it alight.

This is the second incident this week of an Ola scooter owner going to dramatic lengths to voice their frustrations. Just recently an owner in Maharashtra paraded his scooter being pulled by a donkey and covered in banners asking people to not trust the company in the city of Parli. The owner was reportedly frustrated by a lack of response from the company following his scooter breaking down just days after delivery.

While the company is forging ahead with its plans to develop a new electric car, there still seem to be number of issues cropping up about its electric scooter. Complaints and incidents have ranged from issues with the build quality to the scooter engaging reverse mid-ride without warning to one instance of the scooter catching fire on the side of the road in Pune.
