- Ola electric scooter deliveries to customers are likely to be delayed
Ola Electric's mass production of its electric scooters, the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro is likely to be delayed, with production now delayed at least till January, according to latest reports. The Bengaluru-based EV company began deliveries for its first 100 customers in an event on December 15, 2021, but now reports quoting unnamed sources familiar with the company's operations say that mass production of Ola's electric scooters is likely to be delayed even further. According to a report by Bloomberg, people familiar with Ola Electric's operations say the company is making only about 150 vehicles per day, and for many customers who had already booked the scooters, getting delivery could be delayed. At that rate of production, it will be hard to meet over 90,000 orders Ola Electric says it has already received.

The pressure of meeting delivery targets has led to several key departures from Ola Electric's senior management. And it's not just within the company that there have been challenges. Customers waiting for deliveries from Ola Electric have been vocal about their disappointment on social media about the delivery timelines of the electric scooters being delayed time and again. Ola Electric has reportedly declined to disclose production numbers, citing confidentiality, and has attributed the delay in production to the global semiconductor shortage, which has been a challenge for all manufacturers.

Ola Electric organised a first ride experience of its electric scooters, and according to reports, some of those test units lacked quality issues which could not be termed production-ready, and meant for customers. carandbike cannot independently vouch for those quality issues since Ola Electric did not invite carandbike to participate in the first ride experience of its electric scooters. The latest report from Bloomberg quotes unnamed officials as saying that Ola Electric is struggling to iron out manufacturing issues, and that the company's body shop is operating at half capacity and its paint shop isn't up and running.

All this is bad news, not just for a company which had pledged to build the world's largest electric scooter factory, but also for customers who had laid down deposits to book the much-hyped electric scooters. From all indications, many of those customers will likely have to have a longer wait to get delivery of the Ola electric scooters.
