Okaya Freedum Electric Scooter Launched In India, Priced At Rs. 69,900

The Okaya Freedum will be available with lithium-ion and lead-acid battery options and is currently offered as a slow-speed electric scooter, while a high-speed version will be launched later in the year.

Energy storage solutions provider Okaya Group has launched its new made in India electric scooter called the Freedum. The new Okaya Freedum is priced from Rs. 69,900 (ex-showroom) onwards, and joins the brand's existing range comprising the AvionIQ series and the ClassicIQ series. The Freedum will be available with lithium-ion and lead-acid battery options. Okaya is manufacturing the new electric scooter at its Baddi based manufacturing facility in Himachal Pradesh.

The Okaya Freedum uses a 250 watt BLDC hub motor with a top speed of 25 kmph. There will be a high-speed variant as well that promise a range of around 250 km on a single charge. On the 48 volts 30 Ah lithium-ion version, the charging time is between 4-5 hours, while the VRLA lead-acid version has a charging time of 8-10 hours.

The electric scooter also gets a digital console, LED headlamps with DRLs, remote lock/unlock, wheel lock, anti-theft alarm, regenerative braking, forward/reverse mode, and more. The Freedum gets a telescopic front suspension, and a single shock at the rear. Braking performance comes from a front disc and a drum at the rear.

Okaya says it aims to launch 14 new products, including a high-speed motorcycle and specialised B2B vehicles, in the current financial year. The company currently has 120 dealers and plans to add another 800 in the coming days. Okaya has been supplying EV batteries since 2016-17, along with EV chargers and charging stations. The group has been active in the field of electronics for 35 years now.
