With an aim to improve its customer service, Nissan India has today inaugurated a new after-sales Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) in the country. The company says that the newly opened facility is the first and biggest of the additional PDCs that Nissan is planning to set up in coming months.

The new PDC will help fasten Nissan's supply chain management process in India by making sure a more efficient delivery of spare parts to its workshops.

Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan India Operations, said, "Customer satisfaction is one of our key focus areas this fiscal year. Our new after-sales Parts Distribution Centre reaffirms our commitment to our customers in India. Efficient supply of spare parts across our existing service network is imperative to complement our plan to increase our sales touchpoints."

The facility is located at Indospace SKCL Industrial Park in Sriperumbudur Taluk near Chennai and is built over a 4.8 lakh sq. feet (45,000 sq. metre) area. It has a daily outbound volume of 2800 lines/day compared to the previous facility's 700 lines. The company claims that the new PDC has an increased dispatch rate of 90%, which makes it deliver parts the same day to different locations in India.

Yomura added, "Our plan is to have a hub-and-spoke parts distribution model. We will set up additional spare parts distribution centres in other locations in India in coming months, while Chennai will be the distribution hub."

The material storage facility comprises heavy duty racking, shelving racks, stillage and trolleys, while state of the art forklifts and reach trucks are employed for material handling.
