The battery swap stations will be supporting the Nio ES8 which was launched in the market last year. These stations will also support future Nio products.
Nio is the leader in battery swapping technology in China with 700 stations across the country. It has plans to install 4,000 stations worldwide which include 1,000 outside of China by the end of 2025.
Nio will likely launch battery swap stations in Germany as well as it is the largest EV market in Europe currently. These could also be installed at Shell stations.
Because of its battery swap service, Nio is able to offer its cars in the battery as a service model where the customers purchase the car without a battery and then pay a monthly subscription for the battery and battery swap network.
In fact, Nio reports that 92 percent of its customers today opt for the battery as a service business model out of the 200 Nio registered in the market. It also is strong when it comes down to charging technology with Nio branded fast chargers at 150 kW.
