Next Generation Honda CR-V Spotted Testing Again Ahead of Official Debut
Highlights
- 5th Generation Honda CR-V to come with new design upgrades and styling
- A 7-seater version possibly on cards
- New-gen Honda CR-V will make a public debut in late 2016 or early 2017
One of the major highlights of the fifth generation model is that Honda is likely to offer a 7-seater version as well. This is why you'll notice that the SUV's length has been increased and it now comes with a longer wheelbase as well to accommodate the additional third row. The official dimensions of the SUV haven't come out yet but, we expect to see some structural changes as well.
In terms of styling there isn't much that we can comment about considering all the test mules spotted this now were heavily camouflaged. That said, seeing the test mules, it appears that the new Honda CR-V has taken styling cues from recent Honda vehicles like the new Civic, and the HR-V. The LED headlamps, and L-shaped LED tail lamps give a reminiscence of the new Honda Civic, whereas, the single slat chrome grille and the heavy front bumper seems to have been inspired by the Honda HR-V crossover. The new CR-V also gets a bigger spoiler, new rear bumper and roof rails along with sportier alloy wheels.
While the exact details of the powertrain options are yet to be revealed, it is believed that the next gen CR-V will come with turbocharged petrol and diesel engine. It is also being said that the car might get a hybrid engine along with an AWD option. Transmission options will include a both a manual gearbox and an auto box as well. The India-spec model might get the CVT unit this time instead of the 5-speed automatic unit that does duty in the current gen model.
