Highlights

  • The new-gen Jeep Cherokee takes some styling cues from the Compass
  • The new Cherokee will be better-looking and well-equipped
  • The Jeep Cherokee could come with the company's new 2-litre diesel mill

Official images of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUV have been released and as expected the facelifted model comes with a host of changes. Salted for its public debut on January 16, 2018, at the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, USA, FCA claims that the 2019 Cherokee offers premium design and styling, new features, and fuel-efficient powertrain options. Like the current model, the new Cherokee will also be positioned below the bigger and more expensive Grand Cherokee, and above the new Jeep Compass.

The company still hasn't revealed the technical specifications and other details about the new Jeep Cherokee and claims to reveal complete vehicle information at Detroit Auto Show. Having said that, based on these official images, we can deduce a thing or two about the equipment, features and other offerings of the new Cherokee.

The new Jeep Cherokee will also gets a Trailhawk version with revised styling

Firstly, the new model comes with an all-new face with a larger and more stylish set of headlamps with integrated turn signal lights and stylish LED daytime running lights. The SUV now also comes with a slightly more snooping nose with the Jeep logo at the centre and the signature seven-slat grille with chrome borders. The bumper is also all-new and comes with some muscular lines that add to the SUV's aggressive stance. There is a larger central airdam with a mesh grille and large foglamp enclosures on either end with chrome bezels and round LED foglamps. The SUV will also come with a top-end Trailhawk version that will come with the signature black band on the hood and meaner looking black bumper with tow hooks poking out of the bumper and the high-mounted fog lights.

The new Cherokee also comes with a set of new beefier alloy wheels, black underbody cladding and larger roof rails. The SUV also comes with electrically operable ORVMs, side cladding, and some bold character lines. The rear comes with a new tailgate and a roof-mounted spoiler with integrated brake lights. The taillamp design is also new and the cluster pattern is a bit similar to the Compass' taillights. The SUV also comes with a new rear bumper with silver rear diffuser and dual chrome-tipped exhaust. The cabin, on the other hand, borrows its cues and colour pattern from the new Compass, with slightly different dashboard design that gets larger aircon vents, a better-equipped centre console and steering wheels and possible slightly larger and more comfortable seats.

Engine details are yet to be revealed, but we expect the new Cherokee to come with Jeep's new 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, along with the options V6 and the new 2.4-litre petrol motor. Globally, the mid-size SUV will go on sale towards the end of 2018, after its debut at Detroit, and while there is no official word on it yet, we do expect the SUV to reach the Indian shores as well.
