- Nissan X-Trail Hybrid was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo
- Nissan will bring the X-Trail Hybrid to India via the CBU route
The Nissan X-Trail Hybrid was supposed to be launched in India this December, but now it seems the car will only come next year, possibly in January. The Japanese carmaker has showcased it at the 2016 Auto Expo along with the Nissan GT-R, which went on sale in India on 2nd December. At the launch of the GT-R, Nissan India President Guillaume Sicard said that the new X-Trail Hybrid will be launched in India at the start of 2017. Nissan will bring the X-Trail Hybrid to India as Completely Built-Up (CBU) units and thus will attract a premium price tag in the range of Rs. 30 lakh to Rs. 35 lakh.
The Nissan X-Trail is in no way new to India. The carmaker launched the car in the country back in 2005 and was on sale in India up until 2014. Now, after two years, Nissan is set to bring the X-Trail SUV back to India, but this time in its Hybrid Avatar. The Nissan X-Trail Hybrid will be the country's first full-fledged hybrid SUV in its segment and India is only the 4th market to get this popular SUV from the Japanese carmaker.
The new generation Nissan X-Trail comes with some key design updates and a host of new comfort and convenience features as well. We have already seen the car at the 2016 Auto Expo early this year, and much recently a few months back when it was spotted testing in India. The upcoming Nissan X-Trail hybrid SUV comes powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to 32Kw electric motor. Interestingly, India is only the 4th market to get the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid and will come with an X-Tronic CVT unit. There will also be an option for an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system as well.
Currently, in its third generation, the latest Nissan X-Trail was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013. This model looks a lot sleeker and follows the design language prevalent in Nissan's family of SUVs that include the Juke, Qashqai, Pathfinder, Murano, and Patrol. The X-Trail features slim headlamps, the Nissan 'V-Motion' grille, and C-shaped tail lamps, among other design elements. The new Nissan X-Trail Hybrid is designed on the carmaker's CMF-C platform, which will be introduced in India for the first time. The new 5-seater hybrid SUV measures 4,640 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width and 1,715 mm in height. The SUV also comes with a longer 2,705 mm wheelbase now, which means we'll get some enhanced leg room inside the cabin.
